The Common People team would like to say a huge thank you to all the Oxfordshire bands who have entered this year’s I Want to Play at Common People competition. As expected, the standard was very high, but following hours of listening and much deliberation, our judges have whittled down the entrants to a final five bands who will battle it out at O2 Academy Oxford on Friday 27th April to win a slot on the Common Stage at this year’s Common People festival in South Park on spring bank holiday 26th & 27th May.
The five bands who have made it through to the finals are AudacityLive, the house band of Oxford’s Audacity who promise raucous live riffs & rhythms, techno basslines and harmonious vocals. Breezewax, a solo act, purveyor of positive vibes and unique, euphoric, soulful electronic music blended with live instrumentation. Zurich, who have already been championed by BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Introducing and have toured the UK and abroad. Life Inc., a new band from Wantage who have recently supported Flamingods and Husky Loops. And Easter Island Statues a three-piece alt/indie rock band hailing, not unreasonably for this competition, from Oxford.
The five-way final, which is sure to be hotly contested, is open to the public for just a quid a band. Tickets will be available on the door but you don’t want to miss out on the best new bands around so grab your £5+bf tickets now and come to O2 Academy Oxford on Friday 27th April, support the local music scene and check out the hottest bands we could unearth!
